Senior Communications Strategist

Communications Strategy, New York

Job Title: Senior Communications Strategist
Department: Communications Strategy

Location: New York

Job Summary:

As an industry, we use a synchronized approach to creative and media - planning both at the same time, often in different places, inevitably getting to some kind of a stacked output: a media plan that forces creative execution or a creative execution that forces a media plan. But the very best ideas typically come from an integrated approach, where the creative and media come together to create a unified communications idea. At Droga5, we challenge the existing industry model & have always preferred an integrated approach. In order to continue to deliver on that approach, we’d like to hire someone who sits at the agency and is dedicated to the earned media landscape. This person would be a traditional Senior Communications Strategist with a focus on paid social/earned media.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with the data team to identify key media insights to inform the creative brief
  • Understand clients’ goals and apply them to an engagement strategy
  • Guide the creative work, ensuring that it is in line with the engagement strategy
  • Work with creative teams to amplify their ideas via media strategy & tactics
  • Work as a senior partner to the Account, Strategy (Brand, Data &/or Digi) & Creative leads
  • Play a key role in the IMC process, working with our partner agencies to create a holistic and detailed communications plan
  • Work with the data & analytics team to establish metrics and optimize the campaign accordingly

 Qualifications:

  • 5-7 Years in Communication/Connections/Engagement Planning. Ideally this candidate would have both media and creative agency experience.
  • Deep understanding of the media landscape - both offline and online
  • Ability to think strategically (not just tactically)
  • Experience using media-based insight tools (MRI/Simmons, eMarketer, AdViews/AdRelevance, Comscore, Interpret - New Media Measure)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commercially minded, believes in the power of brands
  • Ability to work independently on a project or in a team environment
